The English mountain man just died
He was a legend in his own time
The quaint little chapel by the hill was full
His remaining contemporary and friend was there
Paying his respects like the others
Remembering a man who was of the high ground
Tho he was down to earth and a peoples' person
The stone walls he built were straighter and just right
His solid legacy which will last forever
Long after his body is taken back to Nature
His home was below the mountains
Where he worked his entire life
From down the mine to the limestone quarry
To maintaining his part of road
Near his small farm with land and animals
And finally building stonewalls that amazed everyone
From fellow farmers to visiting hikers
I'd love to go back in time and meet him
One of England's last mountain men
Have a beer with him and listen to his stories
A man from a time and history now gone
I will always remember the mountain man
Especially when climbing his mountain...
