Riga Limit

Riga Limit

Riga flew her spaceship over the blue alien planet. Light years from Earth. She was maxed out. No sleep for twenty-four hours. Her chest felt tight her breathing laboured. Fuck! My angina high blood and heart disease. I faint light headed. Oh no! not a stoke. Her vision blurred slightly. Her mind was mush. Cognitively she could handle no more. Her mind was processing information wrongly. Fuck! I'm losing my damn edge. My health conditions. I thought they were fixed. Shit. Gotta bring up the flight computer before I crash. Computer come online. Take over. I am... Struggling...

Pink lights danced on the air before Riga. The computer online. She nodded. The computer read her thoughts. It began a landing approach. Made the force field stronger. Lowered the landing skids. Narrowed the viewing window view. Fine tined the anti-gravity system for the local gravity. Enabling the invisibility cloak.

Riga lay back and shut her eyes. She was thinking of her father. Always of him. Where was he now? Could she fly to him in such a ship? Could she do a magic spell? Juniper's Daughter had taught Riga well. But what Riga asked was impossible. To see her father again. Except in a dream. A dream…

Riga's ship landed safely. Riga was elsewhere. Physically on the flight deck sprawled on the large red leather pilot’s seat. She was in another place. There was no more fatigue or mental overload. She was calm relaxed. Not irate with Pedro or stressed with work or full of sadness. She was... Fine.

My dear Riga. Please do not worry. Try to relax. You are with me now. In this place there is no time. You can go forward or back. Simply join me here when you want. We are together then. Please stop worrying and grieving. Please my daughter! I beg you. The truth is I never left you. I simply changed form. Like water changes form from a liquid to a gas to solid. Please understand that. I am always by your side. I never left Riga. And please forgive Pedro. Do not be mad at him. He's a good guy. Even if you are no longer together. Please be his friend. You hurt him deeply. Make peace with yourself and with him. Promise me on this Riga...

Yes father. I promise you. I missed you so much...

Understanding

Understanding

Frank knew that both he and Amy were type cast in their roles. He was the wounded soldier with PTSD and she was the understanding but struggling girlfriend/ex girlfriend. She really tried her best to support him and be there. By being there she endured her own Hell. That of hearing his stories, feelings and experiences. He was reliving and re-acting them. Amy had never seen a man cry before. A powerful strong muscular one like Frank. She knew he was proud of his service but fought strong demons. The price of what he'd done in the jungles of Venezuela. She wondered how he would be if he never went there? Would they still be together or would some mundane issue ruin their relationship? He wasn’t one for cheating or abusing women. He was quiet and thoughtful. His sensitivity was what added to his troubles. He dwelled on things. She taught him this wasn't a good way. He needed to understand and move on after processing all the events. Frank had seen a specialist several times. Amy had been there. They were raw meetings. It all came out. More than he told her. Afterwards he was calm like he was free. But it came back in cycles. Different things setting it off. In time this pushed Amy away. She put up walls to protect her own sanity and became distant. Then she silently left one day. Frank still messaged her but rarely got a reply. Like being in the jungles he was alone again. His service pistol was on the small bedside table. It was loaded. Always there always ready. Like he was. Frank the soldier. In his small rented room near the bar. He had to go to work. Not think about the killing or death.
