Riga Shoot
Riga was once in high school. She saw another
pupil shoot a guy who came into class. It wasn't nice and it was needed.
It happened fast.
One
pupil was by the board. His job was to write down who was noisy. Riga
wasn't on the list. She was being good today. For she wanted a biscuit
off the teacher. However, two pupils were on the board. Emma and Tomas.
Jomil was the board writer. Two were fine but more needed. Teacher would
reward him with more biscuits.
Just
then a commotion happened. A scruffy man in a stained yellow t shirt
and be black cargo pants barged into the room. He kicked the door open
and entered.
"Money!
Give me your money now! All of you. And your phones. Come on kids! And
teacher you too. Or I will plug you!" From his front pocket he withdrew a
gun. It was silver and white.
Riga
stared at the man and the pistol he held. He wants our money! I don't
have any. Only my bus fair. Oh no! I don't want him to shoot me...
Jomil broke the shocked silence. "We will give you our.money Sir. We are poor students. So it will not be a lot."
The
teacher acted next. "Lee. Go round and get the students money. Put it
in this cup. Then give it to the man. I don't want anybody hurt."
"Yes teacher. I'm scared though Miss!" Lee stood up and got the cup off teacher.
"It's fine. Nothing will happen Lee. Do as the man asks." Teacher watched.
"Hurry up kids! I don't have all day. Fill up the cup. Hurry." The robber pointed and waved his gun.
"You will get your money,' the teacher replied. "Please do not hurt anybody."
Lee
went from student to student and picked up their pennies. It was bus
fair and lunch money. None worked so there was nothing substantial to
steal. He got to Riga.
Riga
was scared but determined not to show it. She reached into her pocket
while watching the gun man and Lee and then teacher. She dropped a few
pennies into the almost empty cup. Lee finished going round the class.
Jomil
pissed himself. Smelly warm piss ran down his leg and onto the red
tiled floor. Nobody laughed. A gal started crying and his her hands.
Lee
was the last to put his pennies into the cup. He shook at he gave the
cup to his teacher. She put her own bus fair and lunch money onto the
cup. It wasn't half full.
The
teacher took the cup over to the gun man. It took real strength to do
that. His chrome pistol was aimed at her. "Here is your money Sir.
Please do not kill is all."
"Thank you for the money. There's not a lot..." The gun man shook the cup. The pennies rattled. Not enough for six beers...
"My
class are second year students. None of them work or have money. And
the government pats my wage. That's it." The teacher looked at her
opponent. She said it as it was and was determined not to be humiliated.
And to protect her class.
Riga
watched it all closely. She heard the gun man demand their phones. He
told Lee to go and collect their mobiles. One student protested loudly.
He complained his phone was off his father. A Christmas gift. The
teacher tried replying but the gun man cut her off.
"Do not piss me off. I will kill you first!" The teacher stood her ground. The gun man waved his weapon.
"Ok.
You heard him. Get ready to give him your phones..." This had to end.
Without fatalities. Phones could be replaced. Live couldn't.
A
big student called Tumo acted. This had to end. He slowly reached into
his jeans pocket. There he had a licenced pistol. It carried five shots
and was small. He was the oldest in class. He wanted to be a cop upon
graduating. Tumo knew that if he warned the gun man he would be killed.
Surprise mattered. He fingered off the safety and put the gun by his
side. In a fast movement he kept low below waist height. He watched the
shooter. With the gun in his left hand he crouched and ran at the man.
And fired once into each leg. The reports were loud and startling. Each
shot hit home! Just like when he practiced with his father.
"Aaaaah!"
Screamed the wounded gun man. He dropped his silver chrome handled
revolver. It was never fired. He tried to walk but fell to the floor. He
clutched at an empty desk and it fell over on him. He swore evil words.
"Quick!
Kick his gun away. Restrain him!" The teacher said. She ran to the
disabled man. He crawled on the floor. Going for his gun. Two others ran
to assist. Riga got up and kicked the unfired weapon away. Unfired.
They were so so lucky.
Tumo went over and pointed his own small pistol at the robber. Blood slowly seeped from his wounds onto the floor.
"Do
not move asshole!" Tumo kicked the man in the side. The man complied
and cried out in pain. Just then sirens cut through the air. The cops
were on the way!
"Students
stay at your desks. The three of you restraining the man, make sure he
doesn't move. Wait for the police." All did as told. Riga was one of the
three kneeling on him and keeping him in place.
Riga
was scared but knew she had to help out. And to also learn from this
incident. Just another day at school. What would her parents say? As
long as she was fine. Only that mattered. Her sister would be more
upset. She really cared about her younger sister...
